Accessibility

CMHA, we are committed to making our work accessible to all. Through close work with organisations like the RNIB and RNID, we strive to deliver outstanding sites that everyone can enjoy.

Keyboard Navigation

Navigating around the site is possible without the mouse. The following keyboard commands are active across the site, in both HTML and Flash elements of the site:

  • TAB - to cycle forwards through links.
  • SHIFT + TAB - to cycle backwards though links.
  • ENTER - to select a highlighted link.

The ordering of the tabbable items has been specified, which allows a natural progression through links and form fields in the site.

Access Keys

These can be accessed in the following way:

  • IE: hold down Alt.
  • Modzilla Firefox 2&3: hold down Alt+Shift

Then press one of the keys listed below:

  • '1' to go to the Home page
  • '2' to go to the Events page
  • '3' to go to the News page
  • '4' to go to the Virtual Tour page
  • '5' to go to the Blogs page
  • '6' to go to the Info page
  • '7' to go to the Contact page

Images

Every image throughout the site has been tagged with an ALT attribute. ALT allows alternative description to be given for each image. This allows both screen readers and browsers which don't display images to represent a substitute description.

Screen readers

CMHA works with screen reader technology. This allows an audio narration of the site as an alternative to visual. At CMHA we develop with the the leading screen readers in mind.
